Babynet wanted to run a monthly contest for cutest babies for their
subscribers. They wanted subscribers to vote for the cutest baby and then
declare the result 1st of every month.
Approach
The biggest challenge here was those lots of people have photos in hard copy.
And while others have scanned copies. So we created multi-input solution
where people who have photos in hard copy they can just send the picture by
postal mail and who have soft copy of the pictures, they could use
web-based form to upload the picture or e-mail it. Next challenge was that
soft copy photographs could be in any format like BMP, JPG, GIF, PDS etc
and the size was not standard. We decided to receive the pictures
in whatever format they are in and then
process the pictures in the back office. Received pictures were processed
using graphics tools like photoshop and corel draw and fix the entry into
a standard size and format.
Next challenge was deciding on the winners of the contest. We devised the
subscribers grading system that allowed the subscribers to vote online and
allot points to the baby photos. Our system totaled the points and graded
the top 10 on this basis.
Sometime people would send multiple entries and also after winning once
again send entry for the same child. Our system would identify these and eliminate.
Hard copy pictures received were scanned manually.
